Avalanche Studios is the original creator of the award-winning Just Cause franchise (published by Square Enix), the developer of Mad Max (published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment) and is currently working on Rage 2 (published by Bethesda Softworks), scheduled for release in 2019. As a publisher, Avalanche Studios has brought free-to-play service theHunter Classic to market and reached more than 7 million registered players across 190 countries. The theHunter franchise was expanded in 2017 to also include premium title theHunter: Call of the Wild, which was released for PC and subsequently console platforms. Avalanche Studios, which is based in Stockholm, New York City and Malmö, was founded in 2003 by Christofer Sundberg and Linus Blomberg. The studio develops games using its proprietary Apex technology, enabling huge open worlds filled with emergent gameplay.

The Position

Avalanche Studios is looking for a Tools Programmer to join our team in beautiful Malmö to craft expressive and effective tools and pipelines. As a Tools Programmer within our team, your main responsibility will be to build, maintain and support user-friendly, yet advanced tools to be used by a range of disciplines in multiple titles in development. You will also work with our content pipeline to allow maximum efficiency for our content creators. Avalanche has a strong tradition of cross-project collaboration and the vast majority of our tools are shared between several projects in production. When developing tools you can expect that most of your improvements will be folded back into the engine mainline for other projects to benefit.

The ideal candidate has an interest in application development, usability and workflows, and has a strong drive to make the best possible tools. You will write tools for non-technical team members, and support those people and tools through iteration and refinement. Above all, you have a keen awareness of the success criteria for your work - empowered, fulfilled and effective tools users.

Required Qualifications

  • Excellent programming skills in C/C++
  • At least 3 years of professional tools development
  • Good communication skills and thrives as a member of a team

Beneficial Experience

  • Proven track record in ability to identify user requirements workflows
  • Expertise in Human / Machine interaction and interface design
  • Windows application development
  • Qt development, model/view design patterns
  • Experience with 3D asset content pipelines such as Maya
