Avalanche Studios Appoints Head of Research

Avalanche Studios (www.avalanchestudios.se), original creators and developers of the award-winning Just Cause franchise and the critically acclaimed Renegade Ops, has appointed Emil Persson, a long time member of the Avalanche Studios family, Head of Research. He will share his knowledge at GDC 2013, and is available for interviews, along with Co-Founder and Chief Creative Officer Christofer Sundberg.

Emil Persson has a background at ATI, where he assisted the top game developers in the world with identifying performance problems, applying optimizations, and utilizing the latest hardware features. Since joining Avalanche Studios in 2007, he has been pivotal in pushing the Avalanche Engine's technical leadership.

“Having been with Avalanche Studios for over five years, I know that we have great people and an excellent creative environment”, said Emil Persson. “We have always been on the cutting edge. But we haven't always been the best at communicating that, internally or externally. In this new role I will strive to extend our technological leadership by stepping up our research efforts, but also by facilitating better sharing of knowledge between our projects, and making our research known externally through publications and industry conferences. I'm excited to share our knowledge in low-level shader optimization at this year's GDC and extending our presence in the literature going forward. I am looking forward to many beneficial long term effects for Avalanche Studios.”
