Physics Programmer

Avalanche Studios is the original creator of the award-winning Just Cause franchise (published by Square Enix), the developer of Mad Max (published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment) and is currently working on Rage 2 (published by Bethesda Softworks), scheduled for release in 2019. As a publisher, Avalanche Studios has brought free-to-play service theHunter Classic to market and reached more than 7 million registered players across 190 countries. The theHunter franchise was expanded in 2017 to also include premium title theHunter: Call of the Wild, which was released for PC and subsequently console platforms. Avalanche Studios, which is based in Stockholm, New York City and Malmö, was founded in 2003 by Christofer Sundberg and Linus Blomberg. The studio develops games using its proprietary Apex technology, enabling huge open worlds filled with emergent gameplay.

The Position

Avalanche Studios Malmö is looking for an experienced and highly talented physics programmer to help breathe life, realism and fun into our next explosive open world multiplayer game. This is an exciting opportunity to develop cutting-edge physics and collision systems and use them in creative and novel ways, working together with other departments to solve physics, animation and AI problems. You will iterate toward the perfect blend of realism and fun gameplay and use your math skills to optimize, simplify and extend our engine. 

Our Malmö studio is composed of a small and senior team where you will be the physics domain expert. We have a history and a tradition of pushing physics, destruction and interactivity in our sandbox games and in this role a lot of people will depend on your expertise and knowledge to realize their vision of the game. Required Qualifications

  • Prior experience authoring and extending physics systems for a shipped game title on current generation console
  • Experience working with game physics in a multiplayer title
  • Experience of low level optimisations and fixing stability issues.
  • Outstanding math skills (linear algebra, matrix/quaternion math)
  • Fluency in C/C++
  • Strong multi-threaded programming skills
  • Passion for playing and making games

Desired Qualifications

  • Physics/mathematics/computer science degree
  • Assembly and SIMD programming
