Senior Engine Programmer

Avalanche Studios is the original creator of the award-winning Just Cause franchise (published by Square Enix), the developer of Mad Max (published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment) and is currently working on Rage 2 (published by Bethesda Softworks), scheduled for release in 2019. As a publisher, Avalanche Studios has brought free-to-play service theHunter Classic to market and reached more than 7 million registered players across 190 countries. The theHunter franchise was expanded in 2017 to also include premium title theHunter: Call of the Wild, which was released for PC and subsequently console platforms. Avalanche Studios, which is based in Stockholm, New York City and Malmö, was founded in 2003 by Christofer Sundberg and Linus Blomberg. The studio develops games using its proprietary Apex technology, enabling huge open worlds filled with emergent gameplay.

The Position

We are looking for multiple passionate and talented engine programmers to our brand new studio in Malmö. As an engine programmer at Avalanche Studios you will optimize, maintain and develop core features for Apex; our proprietary sandbox open world engine. While long-term health and performance of our core systems is always high priority, you can also expect to be very hands-on with the game teams that use the features you develop. 

The Apex engine has evolved over the past 15 years into what is considered one of the best open-world engines on the market. We think that you will bring solid experience, expertise and new ways of thinking that will allow us to make even better games in the future. On a day-to-day basis you will optimize, support and improve existing core technology as well as innovate in areas that will push the boundaries for what open world sandbox gaming means.

Required Qualifications

  • Passion for making games!
  • 8+ years of professional C/C++ experience
  • In depth knowledge of game engine architectures
  • A strong interest in current generation console architectures and future architectural trends
  • Strong profiling, debugging and optimization skills

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with streaming engines and resource management
  • Domain expertise in one or more of; Network, Physics, Rendering, Animation, Sound, AI
