Backend Programmer

 Avalanche Studios is the original creator of the award-winning Just Cause franchise (published by Square Enix), the developer of Mad Max (published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment) and is currently working on Rage 2 (published by Bethesda Softworks), scheduled for release in 2019. As a publisher, Avalanche Studios has brought free-to-play service theHunter Classic to market and reached more than 7 million registered players across 190 countries. theHunter franchise was expanded in 2017 to also include premium title theHunter: Call of the Wild, which was released for PC and subsequently console platforms. Avalanche Studios, which is based in Stockholm, New York City and Malmö, was founded in 2003 by Christofer Sundberg and Linus Blomberg. The studio develops games using its proprietary Apex technology, enabling huge open worlds filled with emergent gameplay. 

Avalanche Studios is looking for a Lead Backend Programmer to spearhead the development of both internal and player-facing backend services. The services you and your team will develop are used in both our AAA games and self-published games with millions of active users.

In this role you will design and develop our next generation of backend services as well as support existing games running on current generation backend. The lead backend programmer works with a team of backend developers, mentor them in their day-to-day work, plan long term technical roadmaps and promote a positive and collaborative team spirit. As our backend stack consist of a variety of services implemented in Go, Python and some legacy php, we’re looking for someone who have solid experience managing large code bases shared between multiple products. 

Required Qualifications
Senior level, expected a minimum of 7+ years of professional programming experience
Strong knowledge of Python, Java or Go
Extensive experience from storage technologies such as MySQL, NoSQL, Memcache
A great sense of technical excellence, functionality and problem-solving
Strong communication skills and ability to lead a diverse team
Excellent verbal and written English

Desired qualifications
Knowledge of Javascript, jQuery, C#, C++ or Google App Engine
Previous work with high availability solutions
Experience within mobile and social media
Used to work with TDD
Game lover
